CANNES, France - The Cannes film festival is not only a hotbed for glamour and gossip, but also for wheeler-dealing. Here are some of the projects being talked about this year along La Croisette, Reuters reported. Actor heart-throb Brad Pitt has reportedly teamed up with the hugely successful Coen brothers to appear in their new project "To the White Sea and Back," scheduled to start shooting early next year. ------- Australian actress Nicole Kidman, who was in Cannes to promote the song and dance extravaganza "Moulin Rouge," is slated to appear in Danish director Lars Von Trier's next film "Dogville" as well as an erotic thriller by New Zealander Jane Campion called "In the Cut." ------ Ewan McGregor is due to star in David McKenzie's "Young Adam," a screen adaptation of Scottish beat writer Alexander Trocchi's 1954 thriller of the same name. The film is expected to start shooting in August. ------ Italian actress Sophia Loren is set to appear in the debut feature by her son, Edoardo Ponti. The film, "Between Strangers," will also star Gerard Depardieu and Mira Sorvino. ------ Welsh beauty Catherine Zeta-Jones will produce a film about rugby in her homeland. "Coming Out" is to be directed by compatriot Sara Sugarman and produced by Milkwood Films, a company founded by Zeta-Jones and her younger brother Lyndon Jones. Their older brother David will co-produce. ------ Maverick U.S. director Terry Gilliam has two new film projects ahead of him -- "Good Omens" and "Tideland." Budgeted at an estimated $20 million, "Tidelands" is adapted from author Mitch Cullin's dark twist on child fantasies such as the Wizard of Oz and Alice in Wonderland. ------- Miramax Films has been this year's big spender in Cannes, buying the rights to "Rabbit Proof Fence," an Australian drama starring Kenneth Branagh, as well as the rights to "Pinocchio," which will be directed by and star the Oscar-winning Roberto Benigni. The Hollywood studio has also reportedly brought rights to the Chinese language "Shaolin Soccer" by Hong Kong comedy star Stephen Chiau. In addition it has signed up U.S. director Martin Scorsese to a further five-year contract. ------- "Gladiator" director Ridley Scott is reported to be producing a thriller, "Six Bullets from Now," based on the true story of the largest hotel robbery in history. Shooting is expected to start in New York and Canada in the autumn with Stephen Kaye directing.
