With a childishly handsome face, Xiong Ni is already a veteran diver having the experience in many major international tournaments. His experience in the Seoul Olympics in 1988 is unforgettable. Because of the partiality of the judges, he lost to Greg Louganis of the United States by 1.14 points in the platform (637.47 vs 638.61), but many onlookers including a U.S. coach and two U.S. divers, came to comfort him by saying: "You are the true champion." He replied: "Competing with Greg, I have learnt a lot from him."
He has good comprehension and superb skills. He leaps high for the somersault with quick turns and graceful movements and enters the water with little splash. He took part in all three FINA Cup tournaments between 1991 and 1995 and won either gold or silver medals in the platform and spring board events.
Some specialists believe that Xiong Ni will become the worldĄŻs diving prince after Greg Louganis, but the Chinese said with regret: "I have lost the chance to beat him since he has retired."
