TAIPEI, Taiwan - Taiwanese pop king Jay Chou walked away with three prizes at last year's Golden Melody Awards - a major event in the Chinese-language music industry - and he could clean up again at the 14th annual ceremony Saturday in Taiwan's capital, Taipei.

Chou's ``Fever'' has been nominated as the record of the year, and he's also a contender for best producer, lyrics and general songwriting categories.

Last year, he won best record, songwriter and producer for his ``Fantasy'' album.

Some critics have said Chou's biggest competition might come from Liu Shao-chi and his ``Night Funk'' in the best record and producer categories.

The Golden Melody Awards was originally scheduled to be held earlier this year. But it was postponed because of the outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome, which hit hard in Hong Kong and Taiwan - home for most of the nominees.

Taiwanese pop diva Chang Hui-mei - also known as A-mei - is hoping to grab another best female artist award for her album ``Fever.'' She finally won the honor last year after being nominated on four previous occasions.

A-mei's competition includes Hong Kong mega star Karen Mok, with her album ``i,'' and Na Ying from China whose latest work is ``If Now .

''

Nominees for best male performer include Hong Kong superstar Jacky Cheung for ``Where is He,'' and retro Taiwanese singer Fei Yu-ching, who tried to capture the feel of old Shanghai in his ``Back in Style.''

The contenders for best new artists include Chang Chih-cheng for ``May I Love You,'' A-do for ``Getting Dark,'' eVonne Hsu for ``Happiness First,'' Van Fan for ``Fan Yi-chen Van,'' and Lisa for ``More Lisa.''

Best rock group hopefuls are The Wall Tigers for ``The Wall Tigers,'' Small Knife for ``Flown,'' Chairman for ``Eleven,'' Chthonic for ``Turning'' and Hsin for ``Hsin.''
