Tipper Gore, the vice president's wife, presented her with an award honoring her courage, from Women's Sports and Fitness magazine on Tuesday night, and she also got a ``Fun, Fearless, Force'' award from Cosmopolitan magazine.
A member of the Chinese gymnastics team, Sang was severely injured doing a warmup exercise during the Goodwill Games last summer in Uniondale, N.Y.
She was paralyzed from the neck down but has regained some strength in her shoulders, elbows and wrists and can raise her arms.
Sang was treated at Mount Sinai-New York University Medical Center and moved last fall to a friend's apartment in Manhattan as her rehabilitation continued.
She has received thousands of e-mails and letters from her fans in China. She will live with her parents, who run a business in Beijing. [AP]
