Donnie Yen in talks to play Bruce Lee in biopic
2006-08-01
Martial arts actor Donnie Yen has said he has been holding talks about playing late kung fu legend Bruce Lee in a biopic being produced by his family. Yen, an avid Bruce Lee fan, said he has been approached to play the role but stressed discussions are only initial. "I've been contacted to play Bruce Lee but talks are only at an early stage. I don't think anyone can play Bruce Lee. There's too much pressure to play him," Yen, star of "Blade II" and "Dragon Tiger Gate", told AFP. "There would be a lot of preparations to do; I would have to make sure I'm fit. It's very difficult to play Bruce Lee, it's almost impossible," he said. "Of course I'm very interested in playing the role but I would like to finish my current projects first. I would have to think about it first," the 43-year-old actor said. Lee's brother Robert Lee announced last month his family, together with Beijing-based Chinese production company J.A. Media, will produce a film about the "Fist of Fury" actor, who died at the age of 32 in 1973. Shooting will begin in January next year and release is scheduled for 2008.
