Grew up in Boston, Massachusetts (USA), he joined one of the teen-age gangs in Boston's Chinatown, collecting protection money from local Chinese business. His mother, a Tai Chi master, sent him to mainland China to further study his kung fu, where he trained alongside with Jet Li. In 1982, he was named by Inside Kung Fu magazine as the ``Best Martial Artist of the Year''. On his way back to the U.S., he stopped over in Hong Kong, where his mentor, Yuen Woo-Ping, convinced him to be an actor. |
