Gymnastics-China's Li wins men's parallel gold

SYDNEY - China's Li Xiaopeng won the Olympic men's parallel bars on Monday while Russian Alexei Nemov made sure of his fifth gymnastics medal of the Games. Li scored 9.825 points, just 13 more than South Korean world champion and silver medallist Lee Joo-Hyung's 9.812. Nemov, who also won silver in the floor exercise, added a bronze to those he won in the team and pommel with a total score of 9.800. The Russian has now won a total of 10 Olympic medals since he made his debut in Atlanta. Two times former world champion Ivan Ivankov of Belarus, a gold favourite who missed the 1996 Atlanta Games after rupturing his Achilles tendon, leaves Sydney empty-handed after finishing fifth.
