China won its first World Cup qualifier under former U.S. coach Bora Milutinovic, routing Maldives 10-1 Sunday in an Asian Group Nine game.

Milutinovic, hired by China in January 2000, has coached four nations to the second round of the World Cup: Mexico (1986), Costa Rica (1990), the United States (1994) and Nigeria (1998).

In the other Group Nine game, Indonesia beat Cambodia 6-0.

In the second round of African qualifying it was Cameroon 1, Libya 0 in Group A; Liberia 2, Sudan 0 in Group B; and Congo 1, Madagascar 0, and Ivory Coast 2, Republic of Congo 0 in Group D.

At Jakarta, Uston Nawawi scored three goals against visiting Cambodia. Defender Samel Nasa accidentally put the ball in his own net in the 27th minute, and Nawawi scored in the 44th, 46th and 74th minutes. Aples Tecuari scored in the 75th and Kurniawan Dwiyulianto in the 80th.

Indonesia (2-0) leads the group with six points, two ahead of Maldives (1-2-1), three ahead of China (1-0) and five ahead of Cambodia (0-2-1).

The group winner joins Bahrain, Iran, Qatar and Saudi Arabia in the 10-nation Asian finals, which will produce two qualifiers for the 2002 tournament in Japan and South Korea.

At Younde, Lauren Etame Mayer converted a penalty kick in the 78th minute. Cameroon (5-0) has 15 points and needs just one win in its final three games to qualify. Angola (2-1-2) is second with eight points, one ahead of Zambia (2-2-1). Togo (0-2-2) and Libya (0-4-1) trail.

The top nation in each of the five African groups qualifies for the next year's World Cup.
