Israeli Painter Reuytenberg Dies at 91

JERUSALEM - Israeli painter Efraim Reuytenberg, known for infusing Chinese influences and bold colors into his work, has died at age 91.Reuytenberg, who was born in Harbin, China, was known throughout his long career as ``Fima,'' a nickname he used to sign his paintings. The artist studied painting and calligraphy in China before immigrating to Israel in 1949. He also spent four years living and working in Paris. Reuytenberg's paintings, mixing abstract and still life styles, were and exhibited mainly in the Bineth and Givon galleries in Tel Aviv. In 2003, the Bineth gallery exhibited over 40 of Reuytenberg's watercolor paintings in a show titled ``The Will and the Wheel.'' His work also appeared in shows at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Baltimore Museum of Art, the Carnegie Institute in Pittsburgh and the Israel Museum in Jerusalem. Reuytenberg died Saturday. His funeral was held Sunday.
