Wen Ho Lee's Attorneys Ask Court to Grant Him Bail

Albuquerque, New Mexico - Wen Ho Lee's attorneys asked a federal appeals court to grant bail for the fired Los Alamos National Laboratories physicist, arguing that his right against self-incrimination was violated, the Associated Press reported. Defense attorneys asked the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to overturn rulings disallowing bail, arguing Lee was being held because he didn't provide detailed information about allegedly missing tapes, thus violating his Fifth Amendment right to silence. Prosecutors planned to respond this month, AP said. Lee, who was investigated in connection with allegations of Chinese spying at U.S. nuclear facilities, was arrested by the FBI last month and indicted on charges of violating federal espionage and atomic energy laws.
