Police scrap two Europe gigs, Sting has 'serious voice problems'
2007-10-09
British pop group The Police have cancelled gigs in Belgium and Germany because singer Sting has "serious voice problems," organisers announced Tuesday. A concert in Antwerp, Belgium on Tuesday was cancelled along with one scheduled the following day in Mannheim, Germany. That leaves just one outing, in Dusseldorf on October 13, before the group, who have reformed 30 years after they started out, head to Britain to wind up the European leg of their reunion tour. A spokeswoman for concert organisers Live Nation said only that Sting has "serious voice problems" without giving any details Sting's official website said he was suffering from a throat infection "and doctors have advised him to rest." A rescheduling announcement will be made as soon as possible. The trio of Sting, guitarist Andy Summers and drummer Stewart Copeland were at their stadium-filling, chart-topping peak between 1977-1983 with their signature blend of rock, pop and reggae rhythms which produced such hits as "Roxanne," "Message in a Bottle," "Can't stand losing you" and "Every breath you take."
