Veteran outfielder Garret Anderson bashed his way to a club-record 10 RBIs to power the Los Angeles Angels to an 18-9 rout of the New York Yankees in Anaheim, California on Tuesday.

Anderson delivered a two-run double in the first inning, an RBI two-base hit in the second, a three-run home run in the third and a grand slam in the sixth as the Angels beat the Yankees for the second straight game.

Los Angeles has scored 25 runs in the two games against New York, maintaining a two-game lead over the Seattle Mariners in the AL West as the Yankees fell six games behind the winning Boston Red Sox in the East.

The Yankees also dropped 2 games behind Seattle in the AL wild card chase, despite Alex Rodriguez belting his 41st and 42nd home runs of the season.

Anderson's RBI tally broke the Angels' record of nine set by Vladimir Guerrero in a game against the Red Sox on June 2, 2004.

"It's hard to put personal stats in front of team things but this is one of the better ones I've had," said Anderson, whose grand slam was the club-record eighth of his career.

"You play enough games, sometimes good things happen," added Anderson, who had been suffering a slump in form before this series.

He came up with two men on in the eighth inning, with a shot at the American League record of 11 and the Major League mark of 12, but grounded out.

The Angels began their night by chasing Yankee right-hander Mike Mussina with seven runs in just 1 2/3 innings.

The New York relievers did not fare any better than Mussina, who fell to 8-9 with his second straight loss.

He has allowed 16 hits and 13 earned runs in just 6 2/3 innings in those starts.

Kelvim Escobar worked the first six innings to earn his 14th win, matching his career high.

*The Detroit Tigers drew first blood in their three-game series with the visiting Cleveland Indians, winning 2-1 behind Jair Jurrjens' first Major League victory in his second start.

Magglio Ordonez and Carlos Guillen hit back-to-back homers in the fifth inning as the Tigers moved to just a half-game behind the first-place Indians.

*Left-hander Erik Bedard won his ninth-straight decision, striking out 11 in seven innings as the Baltimore Orioles scored a 6-2 home win over the Texas Rangers.

The 11 Ks gave Bedard 218 for the season, matching Mike Mussina's 1997 club record.

Bedard (13-4) has not lost since June 10.

*The Mariners collected 18 hits, including consecutive homers by Adrian Beltre and Richie Sexson, in a 7-2 road win over the Minnesota Twins.

*Right-hander Dan Haren matched his career high in wins with his 14th of the season as the visiting Oakland A's beat the Toronto Blue Jays 6-4 despite the 507th and 508th career home runs by Frank Thomas.
