'No Country for Old Men' heads field for screenwriter awards
2008-01-11
Film-making brothers Joel and Ethan Coen were nominated in this year's Writers Guild of America (WGA) Awards Thursday, picking up yet another accolade for their crime drama "No Country for Old Men." The WGA, whose members are on strike in a bitter feud with Hollywood producers, said the organisation would scrap its February 9 awards ceremony in Los Angeles if no resolution to the dispute was found beforehand. Sean Penn, the director of "Into the Wild", joined the Coen brothers in the best adapted screenplay category, which also included Paul Thomas Anderson for "There Will Be Blood." One-time stripper turned screenwriter Diablo Cody was nominated for best original screenplay for comedy "Juno," in a field that also included Tony Gilroy for "Michael Clayton," and Judd Apatow, creator of "Knocked Up." The best documentary screenplay nominees included Michael Moore for "Sicko", Charles Ferguson for his searing "No End in Sight" and Alex Gibney for "Taxi to the Dark Side."
