Bears running back Benson could miss rest of season
2007-11-26
Chicago Bears running back Cedric Benson could miss the rest of the season after injuring his left ankle in Sunday's victory against the Denver Broncos, the Chicago Sun-Times reported on Monday. Benson, the former number four overall pick in the NFL Draft, was carted off the field in the second quarter after he landed awkwardly when tackled by Denver safety Hamza Abdullah after a 21-yard run. Benson was replaced by Adrian Peterson, who bulled his way to a four-yard, fourth-quarter touchdown run in a 37-34 overtime victory for Chicago (5-6) over Denver (5-6). Peterson, a sixth-round draft pick in 2002, gained 45 yards on 17 carries and caught five passes for 41 yards. Benson picked up 47 yards on eight carries before his exit.
