Oudin ready to cut down another Russian
2009-09-07
NEW YORK (Reuters) - American teenager Melanie Oudin will be looking to mow down a fourth Russian at this year's U.S. Open when she takes on 13th seed Nadia Petrova for a place in the quarter-finals on Monday. The 17-year-old has already rolled over Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, fourth seed Elena Dementieva and 2006 champion Maria Sharapova on her way to a first fourth-round appearance at Flushing Meadows. After already claiming the scalps of such distinguished opponents, the world number 70 is unlikely to be threatened with the challenge posed by Petrova. "I haven't really watched Petrova that much. She plays similar to a lot of the girls I played so far. I'm going to go into it like any other match and hopefully play well," said Oudin. Following the American on court will be five-times champion Roger Federer who will be looking for his 38th consecutive win when he takes on Spanish 14th seed Tommy Robredo. French Open champion Svetlana Kuznetsova, at six the highest seed left in the top half of the draw, will open the night session in what should be an intriguing match against world number eight Caroline Wozniacki. In the final match-up Novak Djokovic will be up against Czech 15th seed Radek Stepanek. (Editing by Ian Ransom)
